Commitment to Community

The Wayside Chapel, Kings Cross Sydney

The Wayside ChapelUnder the banner of Love over Hate, Wayside's programs and services are designed to ensure that the most marginalised members of our community have access to essential health, welfare, social and recreational services, as well as offering a place where people are welcome just to 'be'. Our Director, Sonja Duncan volunteers weekly at Wayside where she works closely with staff and other volunteers to provide basic support services like food, clothes and showers to local homeless people. Sonja loves her involvement with Wayside and finds the work super rewarding, challenging and at times confronting. Donations of clothing, shoes, toiletries, towels, blankets and backpacks are always welcome.

Oasis Youth Support Network, Surry Hills

Oasis Youth Support NetworkOasis Youth Support Network provides 24-hour emergency accommodation for 13 young people aged 16 – 21 years. Staff are on-site at all times and work alongside the young people to build trust, help them to access and attend appropriate services and ensure that they are supported as they work towards sourcing long-term, stable accommodation.

Residents are provided four meals daily with breakfast, lunch and dinner cooked on site. We all know that there is absolutely nothing better than a home cooked meal. For young people living in crisis, this is no exception. Having recently moved to Surry Hills, Sonja has started volunteering with the Oasis “dinner program”, and together with her partner cooks a family favourite meal for the local young people on a regular basis. and stay to enjoy that meal with them.
