Case Study:

Sustainable Green Print – Level 3 Training Printing Industries Association of Australia

Sustainable Green Print (SGP) is the Australian printing industry's own certification program designed to help printing companies meet their environmental responsibilities and go above and beyond compliance. Based on an ISO14001 framework, SGP is tailored to meet business requirements, the demands of customers and the changing trends in dealing with managing environmental responsibility. This multi-level system gives companies a choice of four linked achievement levels including ISO 14001 (Level 3 SGP) allowing organisation’s to choose participation and progress levels. SD Environmental Management was engaged by the Printing Industries Association of Australia to develop and deliver the Level 3 Sustainable Green Print Training Course which aims to assist course participants develop an EMS that reflects the requirements of ISO 14001.

SD Environmental Management was asked to develop an interactive, engaging course which would enable participants to obtain a detailed understanding of the ISO 14001 standard for Environmental Management Systems and facilitate the development of key components of the system. As such, our team developed a four-module course (with each module running for 4 hours) delivered over an 8-10 week period. Desk-top and on-site assistance is provided to participating organisations in between training sessions.
The objectives of the course are for participants to:

  • Understand the requirements of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems Standard and the certification process
  • Develop an ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Policy
  • Develop a Legal and Other Requirements Register
  • Finalise their organisation’s Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register and
    identify significant aspects
  • Develop objectives and targets for significant environmental aspects
  • Review or develop the organisation’s Environmental Management Programs and link these to the Aspects and Impacts Register
  • Develop procedures, documentation and document control processes required for all elements of an ISO 14001 EMS

The course facilitates the development of an Environmental Management System that reflects the requirements of ISO 14001. At the conclusion of the course, participants are also able to nominate to undertake an ISO 14001 EMS Gap Analysis which provides recommendations for system improvements.
