Ferrero Environmental Awareness Training Ferrero Australasia Manufacturing Pty Ltd

Ferrero Australasia Manufacturing Pty Ltd manufactures Nutella and Tic Tacs from its facility in Lithgow, NSW. A family company originating in Italy in the post war years, Ferrero continues to be based in a solid family structure, under whose guidance it continues to grow. Ferrero is committed to environmental safe practices and has implemented an EMS in Europe which conforms to the requirements ISO 14001:2004. The Australasian facility had also started developing an EMS to conform to the requirements of the international standard and required training for management and staff on legal and other requirements relevant to its operations in NSW as well as an outline of what an ISO 14001 EMS would look like. Ferrero Australasia Manufacturing already has certified systems in place for quality (ISO 9000) and food safety (HACCP) and has based its OHS system on the Australian standard 4801.

SD Environmental Management Pty Ltd was engaged by Ferrero Australasia Manufacturing Pty Ltd to develop a 6-hour environmental awareness training program to inform management and staff of its environmental responsibilities under local and State legislation and other relevant voluntary and internal requirements. The training program was designed to be very interactive, with participants required to identify environmental hazards and risks within their operation and assess these risks using an integrated OHS and environmental matrix, based on the company’s existing OHS risk assessment process.

The course also provided an overview of the ISO 14001:2004 EMS standard and provided advice and guidance for the company on developing its aspects and impacts register and relevant objectives and targets.

The training program was well received by staff and management and has facilitated further development of Ferrero Australasia Manufacturing’s environmental management program.
